24-Hour Home Care

Some people cannot safely be alone anymore: a parent with advancing dementia who wanders at night, a spouse who has fallen twice this month, someone coming home from the hospital who cannot get to the bathroom without help. We are a locally owned, Washington State-licensed in-home services agency (DOH license IHS.FS.61064639) based in Kennewick. Every caregiver completes the state's 75-hour Home Care Aide training at our own REACH Training Center, passes a Washington State background check, and is coached by our care coordinators on the specific care plan before their first shift.

24-hour care versus live-in care

These are often confused. Live-in care places one caregiver in the home who sleeps there and is not paid for sleeping hours; it works only when the client sleeps through the night. 24-hour care uses two or three caregivers in shifts, all of whom are awake and on duty, which is what most clients who truly cannot be alone need. We will help you decide which fits, and we will be honest if a lighter schedule such as overnight care plus daytime visits would do the job for less.

What 24-hour home care includes

• Continuous supervision: someone awake and present around the clock for clients with dementia, high fall risk, or medical fragility.

• Personal care: bathing, dressing, toileting, continence care, and grooming on the client's schedule, not the caregiver's.

• Mobility and transfers: help getting up, walking, and moving safely, including gait belt and Hoyer lift transfers.

• Meals and medication reminders: three meals, snacks, hydration, and prompting for every dose.

• Nighttime care: help to the bathroom, repositioning, reassurance for sundowning, and a calm response to nighttime wandering.

• Household upkeep: laundry, dishes, tidying, and keeping the home safe.

• Family communication: shift notes and a care coordinator who calls you when something changes.

Who 24-hour care is for

Clients with moderate to advanced dementia, advanced Parkinson's or PSP, recent stroke, end-of-life care at home alongside hospice, the first days after a major surgery or hospital stay, and couples where one spouse can no longer safely care for the other. It is also the answer when a family caregiver needs a full week of respite.

How to get started

1. Call us at (509) 491-1733. Tell us about your loved one and what the days and nights look like right now.

2. Free in-home assessment. A care coordinator visits the home, assesses whether 24-hour, live-in, or overnight-plus-daytime care fits, and writes a care plan with you.

3. Caregiver match. We assign trained caregivers whose skills and personalities fit, and introduce them in person.

4. Ongoing adjustments. Hours change as needs change. There is no long-term contract.

Care can often begin within a day or two. We accept private pay and long-term care insurance, and we bill many insurers directly.

Frequently asked questions

How many caregivers will be in the home?

Usually two or three, working 8- or 12-hour shifts, with a consistent core team so your loved one knows everyone.

Is the overnight caregiver awake?

Yes. In 24-hour care every shift is awake and on duty.

How quickly can 24-hour care start?

Often within a day or two, and we can usually put a first caregiver in place within 24 hours in urgent situations while we build the full team.

Is 24-hour care cheaper than a facility?

It depends on the level of care. For a couple, or for someone who owns their home, 24-hour care is often comparable to memory care. We will give you a straight answer on cost during the assessment.

Do you accept long-term care insurance?

Yes. We work with most long-term care insurance policies and bill many insurers directly.

Can you work alongside hospice?

Yes. Hospice provides nursing visits and medical oversight; we provide the hands-on care and presence between those visits.
