Then the day comes, and the policy is a 40-page document, the claim requires a nurse assessment and daily care notes, and the insurer reimburses only after you have paid. How long-term care insurance pays for home care

Most policies pay a daily or monthly benefit for home care once the policyholder needs help with two or more activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, continence, eating) or has a cognitive impairment such as dementia. There is usually an elimination period, often 30 to 90 days of paid care before benefits begin, and the insurer wants a plan of care, caregiver visit notes, and invoices in its own format. Getting any of that wrong delays payment for months.
